It's a nation of 250k to hold us back

ladies and gents boys and girls, i can only assume you've heard the sterling news that fibbers has been "redisgned, refuelled and remixed" by none other than tokyo industries. presume you've heard the details on the grapevine so i'll spare you, but check the website for more

a host of new club nights, new DJs, bigger bands and better acts await us

however it's with misfortune and regret that this new success has elimated MELT from the role call, its saturday night spot now replaced by "stonelove"

but MELT is most certainly not dead. the blog shall continue to thrive and hopefully prosper, and there may even be the odd MELT:PRESENTS night here and there

so i shall love and leave you with a video by unsigned london band: the ruskins

peace and love ladies and gents x

at the end of the day, it gets dark mate

heard this on a fatboyslim bootleg in recent weeks and finally took it on myself to find the track. easily the best arctic monkeys remix ever made and arguably better than the original. which is saying a lot coming from a die hard arctics fan. its a bit dated i know, but i managed to find and order it on the seductive format that is vinyl so i thought id share my pleasure with you

peace out ladies and gents xxx

He's only a Toddla but....

just heard this track today, and i fell in love pretty sharpish. toddla t's dose of electro, infused with what I imagine are influences from his recent stint in the carribean. a dancehall massive, with added rhymes from mr. wayne marshall. this thing isnt dubstep, nor is it electro, reggae, dance hall on dub. its a magical mix of all of the above. and its glorious.

peace out xx

new remix of the chemical brother's (amazing) record, swoon. boys noize have taken the helm to create what is most certainly going to be my favourite tune of the summer. big big track, release yet tbc, but i'd definately recommend you get your hands on it when it comes out

once again, big reminder that we have bombay bicycle club in the building next week, for what promises to be an exclusive and eclectic set, with your favourite residents providing the support.

bar 9 kickstarts a beat

remix of "kickstarts", the new tune by example. not usually a big dubstep fan to be honest, but this tune is classic, and the video is pretty brilliant aswell. more kung fu than a bruce lee movie. and some filthy filthy beats to that, seems that its an ideal combination.

hope to see you all at melt next saturday, i'll almost certainly be dropping this!

peace out xx

Kumon ladies and gents

Big big tune by Rusko, from the new album. Hit up by a friend of mine, and thanks are due.

Got some really vintage prodigy-esque house beats and basses, absolutely loving this song.

And a quickie to say make sure you get down to Kitsuine's "Joe and Will Ask?" this saturday. A measley £5 for a ticket and if you keep your ear to the ground theres some big big giveaways going down.

Peace out x

Chemical Brothers - Escape Velocity

New tune by the Chemical Brothers, released on monday. Typical bros drone throughout with some sick analogue synth type sounds joining in later. 12mins of deep electro that i'm all too happy to have ordered today :)

Peace out, and see you at the start of term party tomorrow (hopefully)!!!!

Divorce A L'Italien

There's something really liberating about the use of swing vocals in electronic music. For a start it renders a song immediately timeless. The sample comes from a long past age, which means there is no need for hundreds of clamouring bloggers to argue about who was the first to post such and such an edit. I'm just looking for nice sampling work and remixture, a harmony of (often) ageing vocals thrust into the digital world, to provide an element of freshness to a track which was successful and cutting edge at it's conception.

Here's a bit of swing-dub fusion, in my opinion the best track on their 'Mungo's HiFi Soundsystem Champions' album (2008) with, ironically, vocals from the still active Marina P. There is a real spirit of l'italien here which isn't really present in much of her other stuff, and the engagement between this and the swung brass makes for a delightful little number rolling in around 124bpm.

absolute.weapon

One of the geatest fatboyslim tunes ever made, remixed, and at least 100x better. skip to 2:50, and listen the tune from there.

Headshotboyz - Balkan Powa (Tolo Remix) by Tolo

Gypsy Disco House

Tommorow is a landmark in music the Gypsy Beat Magicians are leaving their caravan site, donning their best gold jewellery and taking to the basement in middlesborough in order to steal the soundsystem. THey may even drop a few tunes, these might be two of them.

Bmore vs Indie

Those of you who watch The Wire will love this.
Found this while trying to fill the void of having no Bunk, Nc Nulty or Marlow in my life. It is a beautiful cover of the Rod Lee tune Dance my Pain Away by an artist called Wye Oak. Download the link and listen to the original here.

Have a listen

Rod Lee//Dance My Pain Away

Revision Sobriety

I really, really, enjoy this song.

The vocal is enchanting, deeply and darkly from the whimper of her newly muzzled mind. Momentary hints of bliss create frank tonal aspects, seeping through melodic woodwind figures and tumble-by-turn synths. Reel, breathe, focus.

modek's.got.mumps

hailing from belguim and recently signed to kiez beat records, modek's home brand of electro-house is rhythmic and fresh sounding, and he has been acclaimed in his home country for the better part of a year now. over the last few months his sound has spread overseas, and new 'mumps ep' is a perfect example why. my personal favourite is the aerotronic remix, posted below. peace out ladies and gents!

can you smell lemonade?

hmmmm... boys nozie are back, hand in hand with erol alkan. Chewing out a track they've made from (and I quote) "a few old demos we both had lying around", they've just yesterday released this beaut on beatport.

keep an eye for the physical release on monday!

download from beatport

Noisia - Alpha Centauri (filth continued)

So they're known for their ability to rip up a dance floor with their phat reeces and heavy drum lines in the dnb world. However few seem to know that they've been releasing electro and breakbeat for quite a while under their label division. Infused by the synthesis techniques adopted in a lot of their dnb, the electro is madness.
They have a new album coming (Split the Atom) out over the next month (though some of us may have found promo copies kicking around the depths of the net mwahahahaha) and it is 100% sheer brilliance, filthy, well produced and playing leapfrog on the knife edge of being a concept album.
This is going to be played quite a lot after Easter, and possibly this Saturday if you're lucky.

New Filth || OMG!

Rusko's got an album coming out on the Mad Decent label. Now as you will undoubtedly know, Rusko usually gives it the shock and awe treatment on his tunes. But this video man, this video. It's for the first single from 'OMG!' (yes that is the title of the album), and it is probably (if cleared for prime time) the kind of thing which will have little girls around the world being simultaneously introduced to 'sub bass' and 'epilepsy'. A fatal cocktail. Anyway time will tell if the album is actually good... collaborations with the likes of Crookers and Gucci Main mean it's bound to sell sell sell.

Now: this is the point where I say Rusko has sold out, that he's not 'keeping it real', that he's only 'in it to win it' BLAH fucking BLAH. So what if he produces a high budget gun-blazing album to make a bit of dollar. As Diplo made clear, we're talking 'Decent Work for Decent Pay' here. Plus, Rusko's sets are supposed to be FUN. Ear drum popping, stomach churning, unrelenting fun. So let's not all get hung up on the idea that he's made an album exclusively to bring home the spondoolies, because lets face it we'll all still be there skreaming (ha.) like those little girls when he does the festival rounds this summer.

late of the pier-soulwax style

they came, we saw, we conquered their rider
however i very much like their new tune best in class and the "soulwax" (unconfirmed) remix sounded very tasty when it was dropped on erol's radio six show here it is in all it radio ripped glory untill it is released watch out for this one at melt after easter it will be a stomper.

Infected on the storm

Though not necessarily electro, dubstep or indie, it is mind blowing production. Known for their psychedelic sounds Infected Mushroom did an entire unreleased remix LP of The Doors along with other artists such as Deep Dish and Crystal Method. I would advise the masterpiece to anyone. This track in particular is one of my favourites, runs at the correct tempo to drop into a an electro/tech set and fits beautifully as one of those "oh no you didn't" tunes.

divide.and.kreate indeed

i know we've all heard the soulwax remix of justice's 'phantom pt ii' (if not, definately check it out), which is a tad dated now, but still wicked tune. sometime recently 'divide and kreate' remixed the remix with the clash's 'should a stay or should i go', the result of which i am completely smitten with.

doesnt seem to exist on youtube, but the artists got a download link on his website:

much loves xx

majorly.lazered

downloaded a wicked remix of 'pon de floor' by major lazer the other day. the originals got a quality riff but lacks that electro filth that im compeltely in love with. frost dj sexx seems to have sorted that right out:

Swingin' and Away

The electro-swing genre has been growing and growing over the past couple of years. Now MELT favourite Gramaphonedzie's (already) classic 'Why Don't You' has dropped (and there was that Volkswagen Ad..cheers for reminding me of that Ollie), the genre is has been thrust into the mainstream, and as artists forage deeper backwards into the swing collections of the 20's and 30's the creative and inspirational music being pulled forth continues to surprise and excite.

Now a couple of years old, the G-Swing Compilation is a tantalising little menagerie of swing culture. The standout track by a country mile has to be the Ludovic Allen remix of 'Mood Indigo' by Nina Simone. As you might imagine, the vocals on this track are powerful, upbeat and as any fan of Nina will know, hearbreakingly beautiful. 'Diga Diga Doo' a close second.

Next up is a collective from Paris known mysteriously as Caravan Palace, a sort of electronic-live-singy kind of deal, with performance powers unrivalled. They make me believe the 30's might roll right back through the living room at any moment. Here is a track called 'Dragons' available on their self titled album 'Caravan Palace'. 'Envy' is also recommended.

Electro Swing is something which has been around for a while, just not in England. So if ya dig it, check out the following continental offerings.

• Electro Swing Vol 1 & 2
• Jesse Rose 'What do you do if you don't'
• G-Swing: Swing for Modern Clubbing
• White Mink Black Cotton
